4/30/2023 0 Comments Musicbrainz picard all untaggedIt's a fun project, and I'd love to learn from fellow hoarders. What would you recommend holistically as the best way to approach all this? (aside from bringing the discs back, apologizing and backing away.) Is there a better tool I should be using for the metadata? (I am trying musicbrainz picard but having a hard time getting jiggy with it) Would welcome any recommendations. In time I suppose it makes sense to put these into a cloud service for safe keeping. Once the drive fills, I intend to move it over to a couple of 5TB portables that I have on hand for the project. I'm unsure how many CDs there are here - certainly several hundred, but I doubt more than a thousand.Ĭurrently, I'm just throwing them onto an old laptop and letting Windows do its thing with ripping and (mostly) finding the metadata. I'd say this probably represents about 30% of the collection.Īnyway, I've looked at a few different configs ranging from "If it's already in Google Play Music I set it aside" to "mmmm, better rip it all, just in case" to "what the hell have I volunteered for?!" They're not super-tech savvy and they wouldn't know where to start and I work from home and can have a machine off to the side ripping while I work.Īlso, they have an amazing classical collection and a lot of the stuff isn't available on Google Play Music (the service we both have subscriptions to). So, I've volunteered to rip the CD Library of a friend of mine who is sick of the physical media cluttering up their space and they'd love to be able to store them away but still have access to the music.
